Did you know that today is National Ice Cream Day!  Ice Cream is a fun childhood novelty treat that has now become a part of a culinary experience.  Not only is it served in homes, its now served at social and corporate events as a fun and cool experience for guests.

History of Ice Cream

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day.

Decades before President Reagan’s declaration, ice cream was first acknowledged in an advertisement on May 12, 1777 in the New York Gazette.  Confectioner Philip Lenzi announced that ice cream would be available almost every day.  Until the 1800’s ice cream was an exotic delicacy only available to the wealthy.  Now ice cream is one of the most utilized desserts in the US and abroad.

Celebrating with Ice Cream

When entertaining at events, hosts are always trying to create an experience to engage their guests to enjoy their food.  Ice cream is a cool and refreshing treat, and one that is appreciated by every generation during the spring and summer months.  So, no matter the occasion, serve ice cream!

Over decades of experimenting with ice cream, there are now more than 100 flavors on the market, from National brands to homemade.  From the traditional vanilla to mint chocolate chip, strawberry, peanut butter, chocolate, caramel turtle pecan, just to name a few.

Here are a few creative ways we have utilized ice cream at our Client’s events!

  • Interactive Stations
    • Build Your Own! – Have an attendant serve your favorite ice cream flavors at an Interactive Ice Cream Station.  Keep it simple, sometimes your basic flavors will be just enough since you will be providing a variety of toppings for them to take their scoop of ice cream over the top.  Once  your attendant provides them with their favorite ice cream served in their choice of a cup, regular cone, or waffle cone, your guests will then help themselves to a display of a variety of toppings.  Now your toppings is where you don’t want to keep it simple – go crazy!!  Have toppings such as hot caramel, fudge, nuts, M&M’s, sprinkles, fresh fruit, crumbled Oreos, gummy bears, mini Reese’s, chocolate chips, fresh strawberries, blueberries, the list can go on.  Give your guest the ultimate cool sweet bar.  You can also use this idea when creating the perfect Sundae Bar.

  • Late Night Snacks
    • After your guests have enjoyed a lovely meal and danced the night away, their appetites begin to rise again and crave something else to eat, and most of the time it is something sweet.  Around one hour before the end of your event or at the very end, have a Mobile Food Truck (ice cream) to greet your guests as they depart with all your favorite novelty ice cream selections; from the traditional ice cream cones, ice cream sandwiches, pops, and more.

  • Transition Treat
    • Mobile Food Trucks – For weddings, immediately concluding your ceremony, have an ice cream truck greet your guests with tasty ice cream treats as a cool and refreshing treat as they transition to your cocktail reception.  For corporate events, what a great ice breaker or treat to serve ice cream during one of your breaks, in between your general sessions.
