The birth of a baby signifies new beginnings, a reflection of hope, miracles of life, and a time to celebrate. I was overjoyed when previous wedding clients, Charlyne and Richard, informed me they were expecting their first baby but also wanting me to plan their baby shower. As with all our wedding couples they become family, so it was an honor to be a part of this momentous occasion for the two of them.
The theme for the baby shower was “Love You to the Moon & Back” based off a Charlyne’s descriptive love language she was feeling about being a Mom and welcoming her new bundle of joy. The colors were navy, blue, gold, and teal. I wanted the space to feel welcoming because it was going to be an event with their dearest and closest family and friends who are going to be instrumental in the journey of the life of their baby.
The baby shower occurred during COVID, so we took precautionary measure with temperature checks and for guests to wea masks, to having branded hand sanitizer to go along with the aesthetics. Charlyne and Richard are avid readers, so they wanted to create a library of books to read to their little one. Knowing this, I created a bookcase to showcase the books their guests were bringing as guests, which was the couple’s gift registry request.
The guest had the opportunity to indulge in a soulful cuisine by local DC caterer, Pinke’s Eats, which included macaroni and cheese to chicken and waffles, country ham biscuits, to jerk chicken…let us just say the menu was hmmm hmm good! In addition to engage in comfort food, we played a game with the proud parents to be and their guests called “Name that Baby”; a game in which they had to name songs that had the word baby. Mom and Dad -to be were placed on opposite teams to see who was going to correctly answer the most questions; let us just say it was a competitive game!
It was a moment to remember, and the opportunity to celebrate new beginnings!
